4 Tips for Finding Common Church Organ Problems

December 19, 2022

The pipe organ is an incredible instrument that has been used for decades in churches around the world. However, there are a few common problems that can occur with church organs which should be addressed quickly to keep them functioning properly. Read through some of these problems then contact Whitesel Church Organs for all your church organ repair and maintenance needs!

Listen for Unusual Noises

Unusual sounds, such as buzzing or crackling, could indicate a problem with the electrical components of the organ. Be sure to check all of the cords and connectors that are connected to the organ, as well as any external speakers that may be in use.

Look for a Buildup of Dust and Debris

Any part of the church organ that is not regularly serviced for routine maintenance can be prone to a buildup. Look for any signs of dust, dirt, or debris and take note of where it’s located — this will help you pinpoint what parts may need deeper cleaning or repairs.

Look for Signs of Corrosion

Corrosion can occur due to moisture exposure or age, causing the organ to deteriorate and malfunction. Check around the internal workings to look for signs of corrosion, such as rust or discoloration.

Test the Keys and Pedals

If the keys are sticking, then there may be a problem with the wiring inside the organ. The same is true if the pedals are not operating properly. Be sure to check all of the individual components of the organ to identify any problems that could be causing an issue with performance.
